Mahomet-Seymour volleyball defeats Effingham in two sets

All four Mahomet-Seymour seniors were contributors on Thursday (Oct. 12) as the Bulldogs avenged an early-season loss to Effingham with a two-set sweep at home, 25-15, 15-14, on Senior Night.
Avery Allen recorded six kills, five digs and two service aces. Brianna DiFilippo contributed three assists and three digs. Marin Minick had one kill, one block and one dig. Sydney McKinney ended with one kill and one block.
The win improved the Bulldogs’ Apollo Conference record to 8-1, the lone league setback in September to Effingham.
M-S is 25-4 overall and returns to action on Monday (Oct. 16) at Charleston. M-S can clinch an outright Apollo Conference title if it defeats Charleston, which has a 1-8 league mark.
The Bulldogs have won, or shared, the last four league crowns in volleyball. Since the start of the 2019 volleyball season, M-S has an overall record of 55-4 against opponents from the Apollo.
The Bulldogs also won the preliminary matches against Effingham. The junior varsity was victorious, 25-20, 25-16. The freshmen were triumphant, 21-14, 21-11.
