Mahomet-Seymour Tennis shuts out McNamara and Charleston

Mahomet-Seymour’s girls’ tennis team started the week with back-to-back shutouts on consecutive days.
On Monday (Sept. 25), the Bulldogs blanked McNamara, 5-0, in Kankakee and on Tuesday (Sept. 26), M-S upended Charleston at the Middletown Courts, 9-0.
Against McNamara, Claire Johnson was triumphant at No. 1 singles (6-2, 6-2) and Emmie Flores won at No. 2 singles (6-0, 6-1).
The Bulldogs’ No. 1 doubles duo of Savannah Amatyleon and Emily Young prevailed, 6-1, 6-0.
At No. 2, Holland Martin and Adella Bird posted a 6-0, 6-1 win.
At No. 3, Ashley Shoaf and Lindsay Gowler earned a 6-0, 6-1 victory.
Against Charleston, all nine M-S wins were in straight-set sweeps.
Singles winners were Bird (6-3, 6-2 at No. 1), Martin (6-1, 6-2 at No. 2), Haley Reed (6-3, 6-3 at No. 3), Emily Young (6-0, 6-1 at No. 4), Johnson (6-4, 6-2 at No. 5) and Flores (6-0, 6-3 at No. 6).
In doubles, Amatyleon and Young registered a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 1.
At No. 2, Martin and Bird were winners, 6-1, 6-0, and at No. 3, Shoaf and Gowler were victorious, 6-2, 6-0.
Martin and Bird are 9-0 for the season in doubles with just one of their matches requiring three sets. Amatyleon and Young have a 6-1 season record in doubles.
The team’s top winners in singles are Martin and Young, each with 7-1 records and Flores with a 6-1 mark.
M-S (8-1) returns to action on Thursday (Sept. 28) at Urbana at Blair Park.
