Mahomet-Seymour Tennis season comes to an end, pick up final win at GCMS

Both of Mahomet-Seymour’s doubles teams finished 1-1 in the Class 1A Champaign Central girls’ tennis sectional that ended on Saturday (Oct. 17) at the Lindsay Courts and were eliminated in the quarterfinals.
Gwen Tee and Avery Sanborn opened the postseason with a comeback 5-7, 6-3, 6-3 win over at entry from Central. In the quarterfinals, Tee and Sanborn dropped a 6-0, 6-4 decision to the eventual third-place finishers from Maroa-Forsyth.
When playing together this season, Tee and Sanborn compiled a 3-1 season record.
Amalie Fried and Emma Clements, who were seeded second, started with a 6-2, 6-0 triumph over an entry from St. Thomas More before losing to a different duo from Maroa-Forsyth, which eventually placed second, 7-5, 6-4.
Fried and Clements had a team-best 10-5 season record in doubles.
In singles, both of the Bulldogs’ entries lost in the first round.
Gianna Hill was beaten 6-3, 6-1 by an entry from St. Joseph-Ogden and Morgan Lee lost to an entry from Mount Zion, 6-2, 6-2.
Hill had a 5-6 season record in singles and was third on the team in singles wins. Clements was 7-4 and Amalie Fried was next with six wins.
In the 12-team sectional event, M-S tied for fifth with Urbana, ending with eight points.
Sectional champion St. Thomas More had 28 points. Runner-up Maroa-Forsyth had 19 points, followed by Central (14) and Mount Zion (12).

On Thursday, M-S closed the regular season with a 3-2 decision at Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley.
The schools split two singles matches.
Amalie Fried lost at No. 1 singles, 8-6, but Clements posted an 8-0 win at No. 2 singles.
In doubles, the Bulldogs won two of the three contested matches, including an 8-5 verdict at No. 1 singles, which featured Amalie Fried and Molly Fried.
They played together for the first time this season and were the 19th different doubles team employed by the Bulldogs in 2020.
The No. 3 doubles duo of Savannah Amatyleon and Jadyn Hannah prevailed 8-6. They were also together for the first time in doubles. At No. 2 doubles, Hill and Sophia Slupski lost, 8-5.
M-S ends 6-6 in dual meets.
