Mahomet-Seymour tennis picks up win over Lincoln

Mahomet-Seymour won five singles matches and swept the three doubles matches on Saturday (Sept. 24), claiming an 8-1 dual-meet win over Lincoln in girls’ tennis at the Illini Grove courts.
Winning in straight sets for the Bulldogs in singles were Savannah Amatyleon at No. 1 over Marie Van, 6-4, 6-3, Holland Martin at No. 4 over Imagin Werner, 6-4, 6-4, Claire Johnson at No. 5 over Lizzie Hill, 6-1, 6-0, and Lily Roberts at No. 6 over Sarai Jackson, 6-4, 6-0.
At No. 3, Ainsley Smith rallied for a 4-6, 7-6 (4), 10-8 triumph over Brenna Corbett-Butcher.
Johnson has won her last three matches while both Amatyleon and Martin have won two of their last three matches.
In doubles, Amatyleon and Emily Young teamed up for an 8-2 victory at No. 1 over Van and Jayden Toft.
At No. 2, Bulldogs Maia Gutierrez and Shaelynn Standifer were triumphant, 8-5, over Corbett-Butcher and Werner.
At No. 3, the M-S duo of Ashley Shoaf and Ella Walk prevailed, 8-3 over Hill and Jackson.
On Thursday (Sept. 22), M-S won two of the three doubles matches at Maroa-Forsyth, but suffered a 6-3 dual-meet loss to the Trojans.
Martin and Johnson recovered from a one-set deficit to handle Shokrea Qidan and Isabella Griffiths, 4-6, 6-2, 10-8, at No. 2 doubles.
At No. 3 doubles, the duo of Roberts and Shoaf prevailed, 6-2, 7-5, over Saarah Quereshi and Richa Patel.
At No. 1 doubles, Bulldogs Amatyleon and Young dropped a hard-fought decision, 6-0, 4-6, 11-9 to Kristen Tuan and Ella Sandgren.
Johnson captured the lone singles win for the Bulldog, topping Jasmeet Kaur, 8-3.
M-S (5-5) returns to action on Monday (Sept. 26) at Charleston.
