Mahomet-Seymour tennis defeats GCMS

For the sixth time this season, the Mahomet-Seymour girls’ tennis team won every match in a dual-meet triumph.
The Bulldogs knocked off Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley, 9-0, on Tuesday (Oct. 10) at the Middletown courts. All of the wins were in straight sets.
The undefeated doubles duo of Holland Martin and Adella Bird, playing at No. 1, earned a 6-1, 6-1 victory. Their season record is 15-0.
At No 2 doubles, Savannah Amatyleon and Emily Young posted a 6-0, 6-0 win. They have won 10 of their last 13 matches.
At No. 3, making their varsity debuts in doubles were seniors Izzy Fonte and Anna Lambros. They scored a 6-2, 6-3 win.
The singles winners – in an all-senior lineup – were Amatyleon (6-1, 6-0 at No. 1), Young (6-0, 6-4 at No. 2), Claire Johnson (6-3, 6-0 at No. 3), Delaney Shore (6-4, 6-1 at No. 4), Kaile Jeffers (6-1, 6-1 at No. 5) and Fonte (6-1, 6-1 at No. 6).
The lone Bulldog senior not in the singles’ lineup was Lambros, who played in doubles.
On Wednesday (Oct. 11), the Bulldogs dispatched St. Thomas More, 8-1, at the Atkins Tennis Center.
Singles’ winners were Bird (8-0 at No. 2), Martin (8-2 at No. 3), Young (8-3 at No. 4), Johnson (8-3 at No. 5) and Emmie Flores (8-1 at No. 6).
In doubles, Martin and Bird captured an 8-2 win at No. 1, and Amatyleon and Young were winners at No. 2, 8-2. At No. 3, Jeffers and Shore prevailed, 8-1.
M-S (11-2) returns to action on Thursday (Oct. 12) at home against St. Joseph-Ogden in an informal match.
