Eden Oelze and Lainey Howard were two-event winners and Talynn O’Donnell broke two school records on Tuesday (Sept. 29) to highlight the efforts of the Mahomet-Seymour girls’ swimming team in a four-school meet at Urbana.
Oelze was triumphant in both the 200-yard freestyle (2 minutes, 12.2 seconds) and the 100-yard butterfly (1:05.61).
Howard was victorious in both the 100-yard freestyle (59.73) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:21.39).
O’Donnell’s fifth individual record set thus far during her freshman season came in the 500-yard freestyle. She touched the wall in 5:33.04. Howard had established the record earlier in the season (5:57.15).
Howard was second in the 200-yard individual medley, but bettered her own school record with a time of 2:18.59.
Other teammates finishing in the runner-up position for the Bulldogs were Shelby Raver (29.91 in the 50-yard freestyle) and Maddie Logsdon (1:18.64 in the 100-yard butterfly).
M-S coach Erich O’Donnell noted the significant improvement made by other squad members.
“While the score doesn’t reflect well, the team improved greatly, with many season and personal best performances,” he said. “Notable improvements came from Kaleigh Holt (sixth in 200 IM in 2:54.32), Trinity Allen (10th in 50 free in 39.48), Diya Patel (50 free) and Melody Hobbs (12th in 100 free in 1:27.97).”
Normal Community (457) was the meet winner, followed by Olympia (285), Urbana (263) and M-S (254).
The Bulldogs (4-4) return to action on Monday (Oct. 3) at Urbana in another four-school meet.
