Mahomet-Seymour Swim Team completes record-breaking season

Mahomet-Seymour’s girls’ swimming team had a record-breaking end to a record-breaking season.
The Bulldogs placed fifth in Saturday’s Urbana Sectional and broke school records in four events.
No M-S competitors met the times needed to qualify for state.
Two of the individual marks were established by freshman Eden Oelze. She placed sixth in the 100-yard butterfly (1 minute, 3.69 seconds) and eighth in the 200-yard individual medley (2:27.94).
Senior diver Carly Raver set the record in her specialty in her final prep meet. Her score on the 1-meter board was 286.50 points. Raver finished third and was the top M-S placer at the sectional.
The other school record was broken by the 200-yard freestyle relay foursome of Oelze, senior Miranda Marcelli, sophomore Kate Raver and sophomore Olivia McMurry. They ended in fifth place with a composite time of 1:49.87.
In the team chase, the Bulldogs took fifth out of the 25 teams that scored points.
The meet champion was Centennial with 209 points. The Chargers were followed by Urbana University High (200), Champaign Central (150 ½), Danville (124 ½), M-S (100), Monticello (83 ½) and Sullivan (68).
Besides the school record-setters, M-S had top-10 performers in four other events, including two by McMurry. She took sixth in the 50-yard freestyle (26.74 seconds) and eighth in the 100-yard backstroke (1:07.05).
Two other relays also had lofty placements.
The 200-yard medley quartet of McMurry, junior Olivia Ross, Oelze and Marcelli claimed fifth in 2:02.89.
The 400-yard freestyle relay unit of Kate Raver, senior Isabella Davenport, senior Skye Rodgers and Marcelli was sixth in 4:21.61.
The Bulldogs had double placers in four other events.
In the 100-yard freestyle, Marcelli was 11th (1:01.57) and Kate Raver was 15th (1:05.40).
In the 200-yard freestyle, junior Natalie Heaton was 17th (2:33.78) and teammate Davenport was 18th (2:34.23).
In the 500-yard freestyle, freshman Taylor Easter was 17th (7:42.65) and freshman Kaitlyn Stewart was 18th (7:57.14).
In the 100-yard breaststroke, Ross placed 21st (1:24.46) and sophomore Anna Lagacy was 28th (1:30.47).
Other M-S competitors were sophomore Grace Larson (20th in the 200-yard individual medley, 2:48.45), Turk (19th in the 50-yard freestyle, 30.39) and Heaton (28th in the 100-yard backstroke, 1:17.60).
The Bulldogs also established a school record for wins in a season, finishing with a 15-3 mark.
