Mahomet-Seymour Speech team places fifth at Normal West and Olympia virtual tournament
The Mahomet-Seymour Speech team will host their first-ever virtual tournament on Jan. 14 to 16.
Twenty other schools throughout Illinois will be coming together, including schools from southern Illinois and the suburbs of Chicago.
The competition includes 14 IHSA Individual Events which highlight a variety of public speaking styles. Eighteen MSHS students will participate this weekend, presenting a total of 27 unique speeches as they prepare for the IHSA State Series in February.
Last week, the team finished in fifth place out of 14 schools at a virtual tournament hosted by Normal West and Olympia High Schools.
Several students were recognized in their events: Alec Berg (4th place JV Original Comedy), Averhy Sanborn (5th place Varsity Radio), Brogan Hennessy (3rd place JV Original Comedy), Isabelle Fonte (1st place JV Prose Reading), Kylie Jackson (2nd place JV Original Comedy), Madison Ade (2nd place JV Dramatic Interp, Informative, and Impromptu Speaking), Mallory Fonte (4th place Varsity Original Oratory), and Savannah Smith (3rd place Impromptu Speaking).
