Mahomet-Seymour Sophomore Trio Qualifies for Freshman-Sophomore State Wrestling Tournament

Mahomet-Seymour wrestlers Noah Frank, Noah Daniels and Phil Daniels all qualified for the Illinois Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association Freshman-Sophomore state tournament.
All three are sophomores.
In a sectional tournament held at Heyworth on Sunday (March 3), Frank and Noah Daniels both won their weight classes.
Phil Daniels placed second, losing only in the finals at 215 pounds to his brother.
The 190-pound Frank had to wrestle the full distance in each of his four matches, posting decisions by scores of 8-2, 8-5, 10-4 and 6-0.
Noah Daniels was also 4-0, pinning his first opponent (in 5:34) and his last opponent (in 3:24) while sandwiching in decisions by scores of 14-3 and 5-1.
Phil Daniels recorded pins in 57 seconds and in 2:07 along with a 4-2 decision before being pinned by Noah Daniels in 3:24.
The trio returns to action on Saturday (March 9) and Sunday (March 10) in the Freshmen-Sophomore state tournament in Springfield at the Bank of America Center.
In all, 10 Bulldog underclassmen participated in the sectional at Heyworth.
Besides the three state qualifiers, three other squad members won a match: Garrett Waisath (6-4 decision at 120 pounds), Hawke O’Malley (by pin in 2:52 at 144 pounds) and Collin Hughes (by pin in 29 seconds at 157 pounds).
