Mahomet-Seymour Softball Seniors Shine in 11-1 Senior Night Victory Over Heyworth

All four Mahomet-Seymour softball seniors had either a hit or scored a run on Monday (May 6) in their Senior Night farewell at home, an 11-1 victory over Heyworth.

Madison Taylor led the way with two hits and three RBI. Madeleine Cortez and Ava Henderson each landed one hit Cortez also scored a run and had an RBI.

The fourth senior, Madisyn White, also scored a run.

Kalista Granadino swatted a double and a triple and drove in three runs. Presley Cox finished with two hits, two runs and two RBI. Also contributing two hits and scoring twice was Rio Casillas.

Brooklyn Dyer and Madelyn Logsdon recorded one hit. Dyer and Brooke Hartman both tallied a run.

Henderson pitched a complete-game two-hitter. She did not allow an earned run and issued no walks. Henderson struck out three batters.

On Friday (May 3), Casillas and Henderson each landed three hits, but the M-S softball team dropped a 5-4 decision at home to Bloomington Central Catholic.

M-S carried a 4-1 lead into the fifth inning.

White scored two runs for M-S. Cortez and Taylor touched home plate once each.

Besides the hitting of Casillas (who had a triple) and Henderson (who had two doubles), Cortez, Hartman, Dyer and Taylor all recorded one hit.

Henderson delivered two RBI. Cortez and Hartman each knocked in one run.

Henderson pitched 5 2/3 innings and took the loss. She walked three and struck out four batters. She did not allow an earned run.

Prior to the game, the softball program recognized the first M-S softball team, which made its debut in 1974.

On Saturday (May 4), the Bulldogs dropped a doubleheader at home to Mattoon, 5-0 and 9-4.

Cortez, Casillas, Dyer and Cox had hits for M-S in both games. Casillas had two hits and an RBI in the second game.

Scoring runs for the Bulldogs were Cortez, Casillas, Henderson and Granadino.

Henderson took the Game 1 loss despite allowing just one earned run in seven innings. She walked one and struck out three. Katherine Severns suffered the loss in the nightcap. She fanned one and walked one in seven innings.

M-S (6-17) returns to action on Tuesday (May 7) at Monticello.
