Senior Ava Henderson pounded home runs for the Mahomet-Seymour softball team in each of its first two games, but the Bulldogs started the season with back-to-back losses.

Henderson homered and drove in three runs on Tuesday (March 12), but M-S dropped an 18-5 decision to Tolono Unity. She had two hits in the season-opener.

On Friday (March 15), she slammed a solo home run in a 14-2 loss, also at home, to Westville.

She also took the pitching losses in both games, registering seven strikeouts in 10 combined innings in her first two outings.

Collecting one hit apiece for the Bulldogs against Unity were Rio Casillas, Madeleine Cortez, Brooklyn Dyer, Madelyn Logsdon Olivia Minor and Madisyn White.

Cortez poked a double and had the other two Bulldog RBI in the first game. Scoring runs besides Henderson were Cortez, Dyer, Jordan Uebelhoer and White.

Against Westville, Henderson’s hit was the only one for M-S. Logsdon tallied the team’s other run.

The Bulldogs (0-2) return to action on Monday (March 18) at Prairie Central.
