Mahomet-Seymour softball defeats Rantoul
By Fred Kroner
After totaling 20 runs in its first five games, the Mahomet-Seymour softball team unleashed a 15-run outburst on Tuesday (April 5) at Rantoul in a 15-0 Bulldog victory.
Matching the offensive prowess was the pitching of senior Karley Yergler. She fired her first no-hitter of the season and walked one while striking out 13.
In 33 innings this spring, Yerger (5-0) has fanned 68 batters, walked nine and permitted two earned runs.
She was also one of the offensive catalysts, blasting a grand slam home run as well as a run-scoring double.
Other Bulldogs with two hits were Abbey Akers, Kenadi Granadino, Jayden Hannah, Brooke Howard and Jami Marriott.
Maddie Cortez, Howard and Yergler each scored three runs. Marriott belted two extra base hits, a double and a triple. Granadino socked a home run and delivered two RBI.
