By FRED KRONER
Mahomet-Seymour’s offense has struggled to start the junior high softball season, scoring three runs in its first three games.
On Thursday (Aug. 5), M-S dropped a 7-0 decision at Monticello. Brooklyn Tufte was 2-for-2. Starting pitcher Addison Schulze struck out eight batters in six innings.
On Saturday (Aug. 7), M-S lost a 12-3 decision at home against Mattoon. Olivia Minor and Brooklyn Dyer each landed two hits for the Bulldogs. Addy Reigart struck out eight batters in five innings. Ava Yeakel pitched the final two innings.
On Monday (Aug. 9), the Bulldogs were shut out at home by Unity, 9-0. Minor and Yeakel had hits for M-S. Schulze pitched six innings and Kate Severns worked one inning.
“We have started each game well, but one inning seems to get away from us,” M-S coach James Heinold said. “I am seeing improvement on a daily basis.
“Once we get our hitting timing down, I think we will be much more competitive.”
M-S (0-3) returns to action on Thursday (Aug. 12) at Paxton.
