Mahomet-Seymour soccer wins Regional Championship
By Fred Kroner
Playing at home at Middletown Field, the Mahomet-Seymour boys’ soccer team captured the sixth regional championship in school history (and first since 2019) in boys’ soccer on Friday (Oct. 20), collecting a 3-1 victory over Centennial.
Nolan Wheeler netted two goals, Isaac Warren contributed one goal and one assist, and Kai Jones added one assist for the Bulldogs.
M-S led 1-0 at halftime thanks to a goal by Warren on a free kick.
“Mahomet put on some early pressure coming off of all-stater Isaac Warren’s dribble penetration,” M-S coach Jeremy Davis said. “Late in the first half, he was fouled just outside the box.
“Isaac took a beautiful free kick to put the Bulldogs up at the half 1-0.”
Wheeler (72 goals) and Jones (56 assists) are the M-S career leaders in those categories.
M-S (16-4-4) will take a four-match winning streak into a Class 2A sectional semifinal on Tuesday (Oct. 24) against Rochester on Rochester’s field. The match is scheduled to start at 5 p.m.
