Mahomet-Seymour soccer win Apollo Conference

Mahomet-Seymour’s boys’ soccer team clinched its second straight Apollo Conference championship and the fourth in the past five years on Thursday (Oct. 12) with a 9-0 shutout over Taylorville at Middletown Field.
Seniors accounted for eight of the goals and eight of the assists.
Cohen DiFilippo and Nolan Wheeler each netted two goals. Seniors notching one goal apiece were Charlie Hawley, Kai Jones, Alexander O’Brian and Brian Woodbury.
Junior Brody Back also hit a goal.
Jones (three), Wheeler (two) and Woodbury (two) were the Bulldogs’ assist leaders. Warren had one assist as did junior Ian Dobrucki.
M-S ended its Apollo schedule with an 8-0-2 league record. Runner-up Mount Zion was 7-0-3 and third-place Effingham was 6-3-1.
In the 10 conference matches, the Bulldogs outscored the opposition, 59-2.
M-S (14-4-4) returns to action on Tuesday (Oct. 17) at home in a Class 2A regional semifinal match against seventh-seeded Rantoul.
