Mahomet-Seymour soccer shuts out Taylorville

Sophomore Gwen Cambron recorded two goals and three assists on Thursday (May 4) as the Mahomet-Seymour girls’ soccer team netted a 9-0 victory at Taylorville.
The shutout was the Bulldogs’ eighth of the season.
Also scoring one goal apiece for M-S were Hannah Creel, Emerson Floress, Ava Jansen, Isabel Lietz, Audrey Marshall and Ella Walk.
Hadley Grotelueschen contributed two assists.
Other Bulldogs who assisted on a goal were Creel, Jansen, Marshall and Kylyn Ross.
On Saturday (May 6), M-S was shutout at home, 6-0, by Dunlap, one of the top teams in the Peoria area.
“Hard result for the team,” M-S coach Jeremy Davis said, “but I still felt the girls had improvement from their previous defeat.
“Good growth in a still young team, with seven freshmen playing significant time through the game for the banged-up Bulldogs.
M-S (11-4-2) returns to action on Tuesday (May 9) at Middletown Field against Normal Community.
The Bulldogs conclude Apollo Conference play with an 8-2 record and second place behind league champion Mattoon, 10-0.
In junior varsity play, M-S dropped its first decision of the spring, 1-0, against Dunlap.
