Mahomet-Seymour Soccer shuts out Charleston
By Fred Kroner
Freshman Paislee Welge’s five-goal performance helped the Mahomet-Seymour girls’ soccer team register an 8-0 victory on Thursday (April 6) at Charleston.
Emma Dallas hit a goal and added two assists.
Other Bulldog goals were by Gwen Cambron and Taylor Dietz.
Ella Walk also recorded two assists. Teammates with assists were Grace Binkley, Brielle Galvan and Camryn Nelson.
Thursday’s game was played, M-S coach Jeremy Davis said, “on a wet and soggy field.”
Added Davis: “The Bulldogs showed impressive skill and determination despite the challenging conditions. The squishy sound of the flimsy field beneath their feet was like walking on a sponge, but the girls didn’t let it slow them down. As a swimmer glides through the water, M-S glided across the field, making the most of their opportunities and showcasing their talent and determination.”
The Bulldogs have allowed just one goal in five matches and Davis praised the play of midfielders Binkley, Galvan and Nadia Biegler, of whom he said have “controlled play and kept Charleston from too many adventures into the Bulldog area.”
M-S (4-0-1) returns to action on Monday (April 10) at Washington before playing their home-opener on Tuesday (April 11) against Lincoln. The Bulldogs are 2-0 in Apollo Conference matches.
Welge leads the Bulldogs with eight goals.
