Mahomet-Seymour soccer rolls past Rochester

Nine Mahomet-Seymour athletes netted one goal each on Tuesday (April 18) as the girls’ soccer team rolled past visiting Taylorville, 9-0, in an Apollo Conference match at Middletown Field.
Getting their names in the scoring column were Abby Bunting, Emma Dallas, Taylor Dietz, Elle Hubble, Alaina Jared, Lauren Nelson, Shaelynn Standifer, Janel Straub and Kallie Stutsman.
Hubble posted a season-high three assists. Contributing two assists apiece were Nelson and Straub. Dallas and Jared each ended with one assist.
M-S led,7-0, at halftime.
The Bulldogs dropped a 6-1 decision on Monday (April 17) at Rochester, which is the state’s top-ranked Class 2A team.
M-S averted the shutout late when Grace Binkley took a ball from Haley Reed and placed it over the keeper’s head.
Rochester built a 3-0 lead at intermission.
“Rochester was in control early,” M-S coach Jeremy Davis said. “The Bulldogs were shown there’s a bit of a gap between them and one of the oligarchs of girls’ soccer.”
M-S (6-2-2) returns to action on Thursday (April 20) at Middletown Field against Mount Zion.
The Bulldogs’ junior varsity team edged Rochester, 2-1, to improve to 8-0-1 overall.
