Mahomet-Seymour Shines at Mount Zion Relays: Varsity 400-Meter Relay Team and Kara Carney Grab Wins

Mahomet-Seymour’s varsity 400-meter relay team was triumphant on Saturday (April 6) in the Mount Zion Relays.
The Bulldog foursome of freshman Evelyn Hillard, senior Lauren Burr, junior Kara Carney and sophomore Madalyn Marx was timed in 50.03 seconds.
Carney was also the winner in the day’s only individual running event.
She won the 300-meter hurdles (personal best 47.94 seconds), beating teammate and runner-upBoyd (personal best 54.84 seconds) to the finish line.
The meet consisted of an assortment of relays, the one running event and the usual field events.
M-S captured second in three of the relays.
In the 800 relay, Hillard, Kira Smith, Hannah Martin and Lydia Risser were clocked in 1:59.25 seconds.
The 3,200-meter relay squad of Katherine Simmons, Anniston Huff, Ummel and Chloe Bundren was timed in 10:31.33.
Also taking second was a freshmen-sophomore 800-meter grouping of Avery Strack, Boyd, Mollie Schifo and Alyssa Gray. Their combined time was 2:08.03.
In the 1,600 relay, Simmons, Martin, Cora Ummel and Hillard posted a time of 4:21.73. They placed third.
The Bulldogs put together a 4,000-meter distance relay unit that claimed fourth. Sharing the baton were Taylor Mills, Risser, Smith and Emily Anand. Their composite time was 14:14.70.
In the field events, M-S ended with the third-place winner in three events.
In the high jump, Martin cleared 4 feet, 4 inches.
In the long jump, Burr was third (15 feet, 5 inches) and teammate Gray was seventh (14 feet, 5 inches).
In the pole vault, three M-S competitors were among the top-10, starting with third-place Kelsie Fuoss (10 feet, 4 inches).
Delia Ann Stout took eighth (personal best 6 feet, 5 inches) and Schifo was ninth (personal best 6 feet).
In the triple jump, Martin’s 29-feet, 4-inch mark placed her sixth. Claire Johnson was eighth (personal best 28 feet, 5 inches) and Jaci Kellenberger was ninth (personal best 28 feet, 1 inch).
In the shot put, Kyndl Zehr was fifth (personal best 25 feet, 3 inches) and teammate Kylee Bell was ninth (23 feet, 1 inch).
Bell was the lone Bulldog entrant among the top-10 in the discus. She was sixth at 61 feet, 1 inch.
M-S placed second to Mount Zion in both the varsity (151.94 to 107.98) and junior varsity (10 to 8) team competitions. Five schools participated in the outdoor meet.
M-S will return to action on Monday (April 8) in its only home meet of the season, a 4:30 p.m. contest against Monticello.
