Mahomet-Seymour Shines at Charleston Invitational with Multiple Wins in Track and Field Events

Jayvon Irwin was a two-event winner, Ty Clark was the champion in one event and two Mahomet-Seymour relays also placed first on Friday (April 12) as the Bulldogs placed second in the 12-school Charleston Invitational.

Irwin ran a career-best 22.81 seconds in winning the 200 meters. He was victorious by .63.

He also won the 100 meters (11.44), an event with 23 competitors. He had a margin of victory of .10.

Clark was triumphant in the pole vault, clearing 13 feet, 5 inches. His closest pursuer was 18 inches behind him.

The winning M-S relays were the 800- and 3,200-meter foursomes.

The 800 featured Irwin, Steffen Kellner, Ryken Kirby and Dylan Smith. Their combined time was 1:34.36 and they won by .18.

The 3,200 relay included Lukas Carey, Henry McMurry, Lukas Nykaza and Ethan Ramirez. They were timed in 8:30.51 and won by .43.

Two Bulldogs, besides Irwin, were top-four placers in two individual events.

Hurdler Travis Hoffman was second in the 110-meter event (personal-best 16.64 seconds) and ran third in the 300 hurdles (42.57 seconds).

Thrower Trevor Reeves was the runner-up in the discus (personal-best 138 feet, 7 inches) and wound up fourth in the shot put (personal-best 42 feet. 6 inches).

Auggie Gaudio claimed second in the 1,600 meters (4:41.28), placing ahead of Ramirez, the third-place finisher (4:42.93).

Also taking third for the Bulldogs were DeAngelo Hughey (400 meters in 53.67 seconds) and Kirby (long jump with a personal-best 20 feet, 7 inches).

Four other Mahomet-Seymour athletes secure top-10 finishes individually.

Zachary Wilcoski wound up sixth in the 3,200 meters (10:30.62) and teammate Tate Bode finished seventh in the race (personal-best 10:39.83).

Parker Wilkins ran seventh in the 400 meters (56.06 second) and Luke Johnson captured ninth in the long jump (personal-best 18 feet, 4 inches).

The Bulldogs’ 400-meter relay secured a third-place finish. The grouping of Hoffman, Irwin, Kirby and Kellner was timed in 45.11 seconds.

Placing fourth was the 1,600-meter unit of Josh Franklin, Hoffman, Hughey and Wilkins. Their combined time was 3:41.10.

Mount Zion (133 ½ points) was the meet champion, followed by M-S (121 points).

The Bulldogs return to action on Friday (April 19) at the Metamora ABC Meet.
