Mahomet-Seymour School bus driver arrested on charges of a DUI and endangerment of children
While the Mahomet Daily knows the name of the man who was charged, we have decided to not publish the name of the individual here.
A Mahomet-Seymour bus driver was arrested Tuesday night on I-72 in Piatt County after reports of a school bus swerving on I-72.
The bus was carrying Mahomet-Seymour Junior High students who were returning from a wrestling meet against Clinton and Mt. Zion.
Parents received an email from Principal Nathan Mills and Assistant Principal Doug Fisher stating that “a law enforcement officer pulled over our wrestling bus near Monticello due to concerns with his driving.
“After an assessment by the officer, our driver was not ticketed, but out of an abundance of caution, another one of our drivers was sent to drive the team home to Mahomet.”
A press release early Wednesday morning from Superintendent Lindsey Hall said, “After further investigation, we have now learned that the driver was arrested and charged with DUI of medication and reckless endangerment of children.“
Hall continued, “We take these charges very seriously and will take appropriate action in the school district. The safety of our children and staff is the top priority at all times.“
The driver had passed all required tests earlier in the school year.
The Mahomet Daily has asked additional questions, and will update this article as we receive more answers.
