Mahomet-Seymour reports 8 students with COVID-19, 87 to quarantine
Mahomet-Seymour sent a letter to parents Wednesday stating that 87 students will be quarantined after eight students have tested positive for COVID-19, five being within the last 24 hours.
One student at Middletown Prairie, one student at Mahomet-Seymour Junior High School, and three students at Mahomet-Seymour High School join the current 24 active cases in area code 61853 as of Nov. 11, up nine from the previous day’s count.
Five staff members at Middletown Prairie will also be in quarantine for 14 days.
Parents of students at Mahomet-Seymour Junior High received an email on Nov. 9 and 10 stating that a student had tested positive on those days. The letter states that no students or staff were placed in quarantine.
District Nurse Nita Bachman wrote a separate letter to encourage parents to keep their child at home if they are sick, and to contact the district if the child has tested positive for COVID-19 or been exposed or if the child will travel or be part of a large gathering.
“With your help, we continue to find that we are able to implement mitigation strategies and notify families of the need to quarantine, due to testing positive or potential exposure, before Champaign-Urbana Public Health is able to do so,” Bachman said. “This greatly reduces the risk of further exposure as it is often several days before they are able to complete their investigation of a positive case and call families who may have been exposed.”
