Mahomet-Seymour Relay Teams Shine at 46th Urbana Open, Claiming Top Spots in Key Races”

Anniston Huff ran on both of the Mahomet-Seymour relay units that captured first place on Friday (April 26) at the 46th Urbana Open girls’ track and field meet.

On the 1,600-meter relay, Huff was joined by Evelyn Hillard, Kara Carney and Lauren Burr for a time of 4:04.48. There were 14 entries in the relay race and the Bulldogs claimed a margin of victory of 1.07 seconds.

On the 3,200-meter relay, she teamed up with Emma Frazier, Taylor Mills and Chloe Bundren for a winning time of 10:06.22. The foursome won the nine-team event by 1.08 seconds.

Three M-S athletes secured runner-up finishes in their specialties.

Madelyn Marx ran a personal-best 56.91 seconds and took second in the 400 meters.

Carney was the runner-up in the 300-meter hurdles in 47.50 seconds.

In the long jump, Burr placed second with a personal-best leap of 16 feet, 2 inches.

Teammate Kelsie Fuoss was third in the pole vault (9 feet, 9 inches).

Two other Bulldog relays fared well.

The 800-meter foursome of Carney, Huff, Hillard and Burr were third in 1:46.47.

The 400-meter relay which featured Carney, Burr, Hillard and Marx was timed in 49.48 seconds and wound up in fourth place.

Seven other Bulldogs garnered top-10 finishes: Emily Anand (fifth in a personal-best 5:40.94 in the 1,600 meters), Morgan Waisath (fifth in the 800 meters in a personal-best 2:34.94), Jaci Kellenberger (sixth in the 1,600 meters in a personal-best 5:56.32), Katherine Simmons (sixth in the 800 meters in a personal-best 2:35.07), Adelyn Boyd (seventh in the 100-meter hurdles in 18.76 seconds), Delia Ann Stout (seventh in the pole vault at 7 feet) and Hannah Martin (tied for ninth in the high jump at 4 feet, 2 inches).

The championship team in the 14-team event was Kankakee with 131 ½ points. Danville was second (94 points), followed by Champaign Central (86) and fourth-place M-S (79 points).

The Bulldogs return to action on Thursday (May 2) in the Apollo Conference meet at Mattoon.
