Mahomet-Seymour Medley Relay Sets School Record in Tri-Meet; Bulldogs Dominate Danville, Fall Short to Champaign Central

Mahomet-Seymour’s 200-yard medley relay unit – featuring Karsyn Johnson, Callie Lu, Maddie Logsdon and Claire Waggoner – set a school record on Tuesday (Sept. 10) in a three-school meet at Centennial High School.
They teamed up for a time of 2 minutes, 0.31 seconds while placing second in the medley relay.
The previous M-S school record – set in 2014 – was 2:00.86.
The Bulldogs swamped Danville, 143-15, and were edged by Champaign Central, 97-86.
M-S won seven events, including two apiece by Raegan O’Donnell and Talyn O’Donnell.
Raegan O’Donnell was victorious in the 200-yard freestyle (1:59.29) and the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.28).
Talynn O’Donnel was triumphant in the 50-yard freestyle (25.13 seconds) and the 100-yard freestyle (54.42 seconds).
Johnson prevailed in the 100-yard backstroke (1:04.28).
The Bulldogs also won two relays. Both units featured the same swimmers, just in a different order.
Teaming up in the 200-yard freestyle relay were Raegan O’Donnell, Lainey Howard, Caroline Mills and Talynn O’Donnell. Their combined time was 1:44.23.
In the 400-yard freestyle relay, Talynn O’Donnell, Mills, Howard and Raegan O’Donnell registered a cumulative time of 3:48.82.
M-S had runner-up finishes in two events besides the medley relay.
Bella Almaroad was second in the 1-meter diving event (174.95), Johnson was second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:22.41) and Mills was second in the 500-yard freestyle (5:45.69).
Mills placed third in the 200-yard freestyle (2:03.92), Logsdon was third in the 100-yard butterfly (1:10.20) and Lu was third in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:14.96).
The Bulldogs entered a second 200-yard freestyle relay and the group of Johnson, Lu, Romy Hernandez and Logsdon were third (1:56.33).
On Wednesday (Sept. 11), competing for the second night in a row, the Bulldogs won a three-school meet at Pontiac.
M-S amassed 170 points. Runner-up Bloomington Central Catholic totaled 63 points and St. Thomas More ended with 61 points.
Almaroad broke her own school record in the 1-meter diving event (203.05). Her previous mark, set a year ago, was 197.35.
Seven of her teammates won individual events.
Talynn O’Donnell won both the 200-meter individual medley (2:37.74) and the 400-meter freestyle (4:48.37).
Raegan O’Donnell was first in the 100-meter freestyle (1:01.81) as well as the 100-meter backstroke (1:13.04).
Lu was victorious in the 50-meter freestyle (3.58 seconds).
Johnson was triumphant in the 100-meter butterfly (1:11.55).
Mills was the winner in the 200-meter freestyle (2:19.71).
Three relays also earned wins.
The 400-meter freestyle relay (4:29.15) featured Talynn O’Donnell, Mills, Johnson and Raegan O’Donnell.
The 200-meter medley relay (2:15.04) included Talynn O’Donnell, Howard, Lu and Raegan O’Donnell.
The 200-meter freestyle relay foursome of Johnson, Mills, Howard and Waggoner earned the top spot.
Second-place finishers included Gracie Shutt (1-meter diving at 64.65 points), Johnson 200 freestyle (2:20.59), Howard 200 individual medley (2:49.10) and 100 butterfly (1:15.15), Logsdon 100 freestyle (1:11.53), Grace Ross 400 freestyle (5:35.34) and Mills 100 backstroke (1:16.64).
A 400-meter relay grouping of Waggoner, Lu, Holt and Logsdon claimed the runner-up spot (5:08.69).
Individuals taking third were Mia Saba 50 freestyle (33.84 seconds) and Lydia Risser 100 breaststroke (1:39.12).
Two other M-S relays captured third-place finishes, including the 200-meter medley squad of Holt, Risser, Saba and Rose (2:38.51).
The 200-meter freestyle relay included Logsdon, Saba, Risser and Lu.
M-S (4-1) returns to action on Saturday (Sept. 14) at the Capitol City Swim Meet at Springfield High School.
