Mahomet-Seymour Junior High Wrestling secures IESA Class 2A Regional

The Bulldogs earned a Class 2A regional wrestling team title last Saturday at home and had 17 athletes secure top four finishes.
Fourteen of the M-S athletes have advanced into a 25-school sectional at Jacksonville that will be held on Saturday, starting at 9 a.m. Three other squad members took fourth at regional and are alternants.
The Bulldogs had 13 competitors reach the finals and six emerged as champions: Lucas Altstetter (80 pounds); Camden Heinold (85 pounds); Tallen Pawlak (95 pounds); Peyton Cox (112 pounds); Luke Johnson (155 pounds) and Frankie Tomaszewski (215 pounds).
Cox and Heinold are seventh-graders. The other four regional titlists are eighth-graders.
Finishing as the runner-up in their respective weight classes for M-S were: Colton McClure (70 pounds); Justus Vrona (75 pounds); Gage Decker (105 pounds); Braedon Moore (119 pounds); Jayvon Irwin (126 pounds); Deandre Hughey (135 pounds) and Collin Woodward (185 pounds).
McClure and Vrona are sixth-graders. Woodward is a seventh-grader. The other four regional runners-up are eighth-graders.
At 155 pounds, eighth-grader Matthew Orr placed third and qualified for sectionals.
The M-S alternants are: Izzy Leyhe (100 pounds); Jacob Norman (119 pounds) and Hayden Hart (145 pounds). Leyhe and Norman are eighth-graders and Hart is a seventh-grader.
Those who qualify for state from the sectional will compete at Northern Illinois University, in DeKalb, on March 13-14.
