Mahomet-Seymour Junior High Volleyball Team Eyes Historic First State Trophy

Mahomet-Seymour’s eighth-grade volleyball team has a chance to make school history this week.
The Bulldogs qualified for the eight-team state tournament on Monday (March 11) by winning a Class 4A IESA sectional in the M-S gymnasium, outlasting Herscher Limestone, 25-20, 20-25, 25-23.
M-S is now in position to earn the school’s first-ever volleyball state trophy.
The Bulldogs have had two other eighth-grade teams advance to state in volleyball: 1994 and 1986.
M-S (21-6) will take on Morton (27-1) in a Friday state quarterfinal match played in Morton. The match will start at 7 p.m. The schools played in the regular season and Morton defeated M-S in two sets,
A year ago, both schools qualified their seventh-grade teams for state. Morton won the State title in 2023.
The top-seeded Bulldogs started their postseason run by winning twice in a regional tournament at Danville North Ridge. M-S opened up with a 25-15, 25-6 triumph over North Ridge on Tuesday (March 5) and then handled Champaign Edison in the championship match, 25-6, 25-17, on Thursday (March 7).
The Bulldogs’ state roster consists of 12 eighth-graders: Emma Arbuckle, Penelope Bird, Carlea Dawson, Emma DiFilippo, Taylar Jacquneaux, Pfeifer Manuel, Layla Palacio, Makenna Peterka, Charlotte Sinclair, Joella Snodsmith, Josie Stites and Ally Young.
