Mahomet-Seymour Junior High Baseball remains unbeaten with win over PBL

The unbeaten Bulldogs needed a walk-off hit by Henry Wagner in the bottom of the seventh on Thursday (Aug. 27) to earn a 6-5 win at home over Paxton-Buckley-Loda.
Both schools entered the game with 3-0 season records.
M-S tallied two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to create a 5-5 tie that lasted until Wagner’s game-winning hit.
Wagner had three hits in the game. Camden Heinold had two hits. Heinold, Wagner and Gavin Bailey each drilled extra-base hits for the Bulldogs.
Heinold and Nolan Sanderson each scored twice.
Nolan Johnson pitched the first 4 2/3 innings for M-S. He struck out eight and walked one.
Raymond Long worked the final 2 1/3 innings, allowing no hits. Long earned the win. He walked one and fanned five.
M-S beat PBL in the junior varsity game, 6-2.
On Tuesday (Sept. 1), the Bulldogs topped visiting Tolono Unity 4-2 to improve their season record to 5-0.
M-S pitchers Mason Orton and Lucas Dyer teamed up on a four-hitter. Orton worked 3 ⅓ innings and earned the win. He walked two and struck out four batters.
Dyer did not issue any walks and fanned five in his 3 ⅔-inning stint. He yielded one hit.
Unity took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but Johnson erased that with a two-run double in the bottom of the first inning.
Unity created a 2-2 tie in the third inning, but the Bulldogs regained the lead for good in the bottom of the frame.
Johnson landed the team’s lone extra-base hit. Teammates with singles were Bailey, Wagner, Tyson Finch and Dyer (who also drove in a run).
Scoring runs for M-S were Bailey, Wagner, Long and Landyn Hannah. Heinold stole a base.
M-S returns to action on Thursday (Sept. 3) at home against Champaign St. Matthew.
