Mahomet-Seymour Illinois Report Card summary

The 2021 Illinois Report Card, an annual report released by the Illinois State Board of Education, backed away from giving each district a designation this fall after an unusual 2020-2021 school year due to COVID-19. 

The report, though, continues to break down each district’s finances, expenditures per student, teacher retention, attendance, enrollment, and salaries in an attempt to help constituents gauge the district’s progress. 

According to the district’s reported enrollment on the sixth day of school, Mahomet-Seymour’s enrollment fell from 3,220 in 2020  to 3,170 district-wide in 2021.

Using the Illinois Report Card numbers, the class of 2033 (now first graders) lost 14 students; ‘32 lost 28; ‘31 lost 1; ‘30 gained 2; ‘29 gained 11; ‘28 lost 2; ‘27 lost 15; ‘26 lost 2; ‘25 gained 15; ‘24 gained 1; ‘23 lost 12 and ‘22 gained 7. 

Mahomet-Seymour’s largest class is currently the sophomore class with 264 students, and the smallest class (outside of preschool) is the kindergarten class, according to the Illinois Report Card data.

The district has 20-percent low-income students, which is near typical. Students with IEPs increased 1-percent in 2021 to 10-percent. 

In 2015-2016 the district reported zero high school drop-outs. By  2017 and 2018, drop-outs were at 1-percent only to increase to 3-percent in 2019. Drop-outs were down in 2020 at 2-percent, but the district reported 4-percent in 2021. 

Mahomet-Seymour High School graduation rates were boosted 4-percent in 2020 with 95-percent of seniors graduating. Those numbers were up from 90-percent in 2015, 92-percent in 2018 and 91-percent in 2018 and 2019. But in 2021 the graduation rate fell to 87-percent. 

Spending per student was boosted in 2021. The district reports spending $9,600 per student enrolled in 2021 whereas in 2020 it was $9,000. According to ISBE’s report, the district spends $10,771 per student at Mahomet-Seymour High School. Expenditures per student at Middletown Prairie Elementary are at $9,325 per student and $8,903 per student at Lincoln Trail Elementary. The district spends $9,025 per student at Mahomet-Seymour Junior High.

The Mahomet-Seymour School District is at 65-percent funding adequacy according to the Evidence-based funding model at $23,727,721 of Evidence-Based Funding Resources. They need to receive 36,822,218 in funds to be completely funded. The report says that the district expenditures total $39,455,743.

The Mahomet-Seymour School District, which has a total of 191 teachers and has a student to teacher ratio of 21:1 whereas the state average is 18.1. 

The teacher retention rate, the 3-year average percentage of teachers returning to work  at Mahomet-Seymour fell to 85-percent in 2021.

On average, teachers within the Mahomet-Seymour School district see a lower salary than their state-wide counterparts. This has held true at least since 2015.

Currently, on average, Mahomet-Seymour teachers are paid $55,153 per year. The state average is $70,705.

The Mahomet-Seymour School District falls behind the state average of administration to student ratio. The state average of admins to students was 157:1 in 2021, but Mahomet-Seymour was at 226:1.

Average administrator salaries were also below the state average. In 2021, Mahomet-Seymour administrators made an average of $103,306 whereas the state administrators made an average of $114,208.
