Mahomet-Seymour Golf wins Tiger Kick-Off Classic

Mahomet-Seymour’s boys’ golf team started the week by winning one invitational and placing second in another one on consecutive days.
On Monday (Aug. 14), Leif Olson fired a 75 and Reis Claybrooke came in at 76 to lead the Bulldogs to the title in the 16-school Urbana Tiger Kick-Off Classic at Urbana Country Club.
Individually, Olson placed third and Claybrooke was fifth. Also finishing in the top 10 was Jacob Schoudel (79), who tied for ninth place overall.
Other Bulldog participants were Parker Clements (84), Kelton Hennesy (85) and Cole Thrasher (86).
As a team, M-S compiled a 314 composite to capture first place.
On Tuesday (Aug. 15), Claybrooke (69) and Olson (70) finished first and second, respectively, in the 17-school Redbird/Raider Classic, at the D.A. Weibring Golf Club, in Normal.
Claybrooke charted a 2-under-par 69. His round consisted of five birdies, 10 pars and three bogeys.
Runner-up Olson ended with three birdies, 14 pars and one double-bogey. He shot 1-under par.
Other M-S competitors were Clements (79), Hennesy (81), Schoudel (84) and Thrasher (84).
Also on Tuesday (Aug. 15), the M-S junior varsity squad outdistanced Tuscola, 160-177 in a dual meet at Lake of the Woods.
Five Bulldogs tied for first, all carding 40s. They were: Aden Bergman, Jackson Bohm, Zach Blumenshine, Carter Henrikson and Ethan Peterka. Teammate Riley Dowers ended with a 49.
M-S returns to action on Thursday (Aug. 24) against Tuscola at Iron Horse Golf Course.
