Mahomet-Seymour golf places third in 18-team invite

Senior Leif Olson fired a 1-under-par 71 on Thursday (Aug. 10) as Mahomet-Seymour opened the 2023 boys’ golf season with a third-place finish in an 18-team invitational at The Den, in Bloomington.
Olson collected birdies on three of the first seven holes and finished the day with four birdies, 11 pars and three bogeys.
He tied for fifth place individually.
Sophomore Kelton Hennesy was the second Bulldog scorer. He finished with a one-over-par 73 after playing a bogey-free back nine. He had seven pars and two birdies in the final nine holes.
For the tournament, Hennesy had four birdies, 11 pars, one bogey and two double-bogeys.
He ended in 11th place.
The other M-S participants in the season opener were Reis Claybrooke (17th with a 75), Parker Clements (61st with an 84), Jacob Schoudel (74th with an 86) and Cole Thrasher (81st with an 88).
There were 108 competitors.
In the team chase, M-S had a composite score of 303. Meet champion Hinsdale Central came in at 283 (5 under par) and runner-up Lockport shot a combined 302 to edge the Bulldogs by one shot.
M-S returns to action on Monday (Aug. 14) at the Urbana Tiger Kickoff Classic at the Urbana Country Club.
