Mahomet-Seymour’s girls’ golf team made history on Tuesday (Oct. 1), sharing the IHSA Class 2A Lincoln Regional championship with Normal University High School.
Both schools carded four-player composite scores of 364 strokes.
Though it was the third regional in girls’ golf in the past four years – and fifth overall – the title was the first for M-S after being elevated into Class 2A.
The Bulldogs’ scorers featured the top junior in the 51-player field, the top two freshmen and the No. 3 sophomore scorer.
Placing third individually was junior Brooke Hartman (who was also a member of the 2022 regional championship squad). She fired an 80.
Tying for eighth individually was freshman Katie Hunter with a 93. Finishing in 11th-place was freshman Makenna Peterka, with a 95.
Sophomore Sophie Park completed the list of Bulldog scorers. She carded a 96 and tied for 12th overall.
Also participating for M-S in its postseason opener were Sydney Carleton (102) and Lexi Helbling (106).
Following the Bulldogs and U-High in the team standings at Lincoln were Chatham Glenwood (402) and Springfield (411).
M-S will return to action in the 12-school Normal Class 2A Sectional on Monday (Oct. 7) at the Weibring Golf Course.
