Mahomet-Seymour Girls’ Golf advances to IHSA Sectional
The Bulldogs all-underclassmen lineup finished second to Champaign St. Thomas More on Wednesday (Oct. 7) in the Watseka Class 1A girls’ golf regional at Shewami Country Club, in Sheldon, and secured a berth in next week’s sectional tournament at Rochester.
The top two teams from each regional site in the state qualified for a sectional.
Sophomores Kayla McKinney (87), Ainsley Winters (92) and Madelyn Clark (106) led the way for the Bulldogs.
McKinney put together a 46-41 while Winters finished with matching 46s on both the front and back side. Clark scored consecutive 53s.
The team’s fourth scorer was junior Gaby Davis (112).
The other M-S participants were sophomores Emma Dallas (113) and Reghan Shelmadine (146).
Among all competitors in the tournament, McKinney placed fourth and Winters was sixth. Clark tied for 16th and Davis was 22nd.
There were 60 competitors in the tournament.
Regional champion St. Thomas More’s team score was 368. M-S came in at 397.
Third-place Watseka had a final tally of 404. Eight schools entered full teams.
M-S returns to action on Thursday (Oct. 15) at Rochester.
