Mahomet-Seymour girls’ basketball picks up two wins

Makayla Rosenbery led the Bulldogs in scoring in two consecutive games and Mahomet-Seymour’s girls’ basketball team completed the pre-Christmas portion of its schedule on a two-game winning streak.

Playing back-to-back road games, M-S dispatched Rantoul 63-24 on Friday and then picked up an Apollo Conference victory over Lincoln, 59-45 on Saturday.

Rosenbery hit 11 points against Rantoul and also led the team with four steals.

Nichole Taylor contributed 10 points, six assists and five rebounds vs. the Eagles. Savannah Orgeron and Ashley Wheeler each tallied nine points.

Durbin Thomas led the Bulldogs in rebounding, grabbing nine. Cayla Koerner had a solid game with eight points, six rebounds, six steals and five assists.

M-S sprinted into a 20-6 lead after one quarter and expanded its margin to 39-14 at halftime.

The Bulldogs also had a quick start at Lincoln, building a 19-3 first-quarter advantage.

Rosenbery netted season highs for points (20) and three-pointers (four). She also pulled down six rebounds.

Koerner also notched a season-best with 17 points. She collected seven rebounds and had three steals.

Thomas and Wheeler each ended with seven points. Thomas gathered six rebounds. Taylor delivered three assists.

The Bulldogs are 6-5 overall and 1-3 in Apollo Conference games. The team returns to action on Thursday, Dec. 26 in the Mattoon Tournament with games at 10 a.m. against St. Teresa and at 3 p.m. against Vandalia.
