Mahomet-Seymour girls’ basketball picks up first win

Garret Risley’s first head coaching win occurred on Monday (Feb. 8) as the Mahomet-Seymour girls’ basketball team topped Mount Zion 61-49 in an Apollo Conference road contest.
For the second time in three games, junior Cayla Koerner eclipsed the 20-point mark. She fired in a team-high 21 points to spark the Bulldogs.
She was joined in double figures by Savannah Orgeron, who hit 15 points. Koerner and Orgeron each pulled down five rebounds. Koerner also latched onto a team-high five steals.
Nichole Taylor posted matching totals of eight points and eight rebounds. Durbin Thomas scored six points and Abigail Bunting hauled down six rebounds.
M-S (1-2) will start a three-game homestand on Thursday (Feb. 11) with a game against Taylorville.
