Mahomet-Seymour Fourth of July Celebrations

Seymour
Start your Fourth of July Celebration off right with the Seymour Fourth of July Parade and Car Show. The parade begins at 10 a.m.

The Seymour Fourth of July Parade which started in 1975 with a Boy Scout troop and a fire engine has grown to include over 100 entries year after year.

“This is just a country hometown parade,” said Seymour Volunteer Fire Department organizer Jim Randell. “We try to keep it low key. We’ve never advertised it anywhere. It just kind of happens.”

Children are invited to Seymour United Methodist Church following the parade for free games and activities.

The small parade was expanded to a day-long event, which includes a car show and fireworks. Registration for the Seymour Show and Shine Car Show runs from 12-2 p.m. Registration on the day of the event is $10. Custom awards will be passed out at 5 p.m.

Food vendors and live entertainment will be included throughout the day. Funds raised from the auto show go back into the community through the Seymour Community Involvement Association who provides children with Christmas, Easter and Halloween gatherings. The Seymour Volunteer Fire Department will host the firework show at the station at dusk.

Mahomet The Champaign County Forest Preserve will host Freedom Fest at the Lake of the Woods Forest Preserve from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. on the Fourth. Lake paddle boats and canoes will open at noon, and family festivities and food vendors will open at 3 p.m. Music in Motion will begin at 5 p.m. After a tribute to service men and women at 9 p.m., fireworks will light up the lake.
