Mahomet-Seymour finishes third at Apollo Conference meet

Mahomet-Seymour’s girls’ cross-country team finished third in the seven-school Apollo Conference girls’ cross-country meet at Mattoon’s Lake Land College on Tuesday (Oct. 11).
Meet champion Mount Zion totaled 32 points. Runner-up Effingham ended with 60 points and M-S was third with 70 points.
The Bulldogs’ leaders in the 3-mile race were junior Ava Boyd (second place in 18 minutes, 44.2 seconds) and sophomore Chloe Bundren (sixth in 20:19.5).
Rounding out the team’s top five were freshman Hadley Grotelueschen (14th in 21:04.6), freshman Jinan Abdo (23rd in 22:26.6) and sophomore Emma Frazier (25th in 22:29.7).
Two other teammates completed the course in under 23 minutes. Sophomore Morgan Waisath was 27th in 22:44.7 and sophomore McKenzie Hissong was 29th in 22:52.6.
Other M-S entries in the 65-runner race were junior Lauren Bednar (30th in 23:00.3), sophomore Emmaline Culp (31t in 23:00.4), senior Callie Jansen (35th in 23:16.9), sophomore Ava Jansen (36th in 23:20.7), freshman Camryn Nelson (41st in 23:46.0), senior Hannah Hofbauer (45th in 24:25.9), freshman Grace Bednar (48th in 24:46.2), junior Meg Turner (49th in 24:51.9) and sophomore Phoebe Truax (50th in 25:13.3).
M-S will return to action on Saturday (Oct. 22) in the 11-school Olney Class 2A IHSA regional.
