Mahomet-Seymour finishes second at Apollo Conference meet

Junior Grace Rodebaugh and sophomore Lauren Burr were Mahomet-Seymour’s individual champions on Thursday (May 5) in the Apollo Conference girls’ track and field meet at Mahomet.
Rodebaugh took top honors in the high jump, clearing 4 feet,10 inches. Burr also won a field event, capturing the long jump title with a leap of 15 feet, 5 inches.
In the team race, M-S finished as the runner-up to Mount Zion. The winners totaled 212 points. The Bulldogs accumulated 104 points. Third-place Lincoln ended with 68 points.
All individuals and relays that placed first or second were accorded with All-Conference accolades.
The Bulldogs had the runner-up performer in five events, including Rodebaugh in the shot put (31 feet, 9 inches).
Other All-Conference honorees for M-S were Ariana Lingard (100 meters in 13.76 seconds), Kendyl Petro (discus at 84 feet, 7 inches) along with the 800-meter and 3,200-meter relays.
The 800 unit featured Lingard, Karlie Fuoss, Meah Beacham and Burr. They were timed in 1 minute, 55.52 seconds.
Runners on the 3,200-meter relay were Elizabeth Sims, Chloe Bundren, Ava Boyd and Choe Allen. They posted a time of 10:17.97.
M-S athletes placed third in three events and fourth in three others.
The third-place performers were Lingard (200 meters in 28.34 seconds), Boyd (1,600 meters in 5:33.16) and Amaya Francom (300-meter hurdles in 54.54 seconds).
Placing fourth for the Bulldogs were Emily Bednar (3,200 meters in 13:16.99), Fuoss (pole vault at 9 feet) and Beacham (triple jump at 30 feet, 9 inches).
Bringing home a fifth-place medal were Bundren (800 meters in 2:37.74), Sims (1,600 meters in 5:45.54), Petro (shot put at 28 feet, 1 inch) and Kara Carney (high jump at 4 feet, 5 inches).
Abramson captured sixth-place in two events: pole vault at 8 feet, 5 inches and triple jump at 29 feet, 4 inches). Other Bulldogs in sixth were Beacham (long jump at 14 feet, 2 inches), Allen (800 meters in 2:43.73), Rodebaugh (discus at 74 feet, 6 inches) and the 1,600-meter relay.
Teaming up on the relay were Callie Jansen, Morgan Waisath, Bednar and Chloe Merkle. Their composite time was 4:49.84.
M-S ended with top-eight finishers in two other events.
Abramson placed seventh in the 300-meter hurdles (59.66 seconds). Carney was eighth in the 400 meters (1:09.66).
The Bulldogs return to action on Thursday (May 12) in the Class 2A Tolono Unity Sectional.
On Saturday (May 7), Chloe Bundren and Kendyl Petro won events in the Apollo Conference freshmen-sophomore meet.
Bundren was the first finisher in the 3,200 meters (12:42.55) and Petro prevailed in the discus (97 feet, 7 inches).
Petro was also third in the shot put (26 feet, 2 inches).
Three bulldog relays ended among the top three.
The 400-meter unit of Kelsie Fuoss, Phoebe Truax, Kara Carney and Isabelle Scheele took second in 55.8 seconds.
The same four runners helped the 800-meter relay to a third-place finish (2:01.01).
The1,600-meter foursome of Lauren Bednar, Morgan Waisath, Truax and Carney finished in third place (4:43.45).
Fuoss took third in the pole vault (9 feet, 3 inches). Selah Campion was third in the discus (81 feet, 10 inches).
Other Bulldogs among the top five were: Kira Smith (fourth in the 200 meters in 31.66 seconds), Lucy Heckman (fourth in the high jump at 4 feet, 3 inches), Waisath (fifth in the 800 meters in 2:45.38), Abi Weiss (fifth in the 400 meters in 1;10.2) and Lydia Risser (fifth in the 200 meters in 32.52 seconds).
M-S totaled 74 ½ points and placed fourth in the team chase. Mount Zion was the winner with114 points. Effingham was next (90 ½) followed by Taylorville (79).
