Mahomet-Seymour finishes second at Apollo Conference meet

C.J. Shoaf won three events, setting a meet record in one, as Mahomet-Seymour finished second in the eight-school Apollo Conference boys’ track and field meet on Thursday (May 20).
Shoaf broke the Apollo record in the 110-meter high hurdles, cruising to a win in 14.06 seconds. Shoaf also won the 300-meter hurdles 39.56 seconds and the high jump (6 feet, 4 inches).
The Bulldogs’ other individual winner was 800-meter runner Jonah Singer. His time was 2 minutes, 4.23 seconds.
M-S’ Sam Garber was the runner-up in the discus (125 feet, 3 inches). Garber took fourth in the shot put (45 feet, 8 inches).
Teammate Robert Byron was fourth in the discus (121 feet, 1 inch). Karson McKee ended eighth in the shot put (40 feet, 5 inches).
Joseph Scheele ran second in the 1,600 meters (4:28.66) after placing third in the 800 meters (2:07.46).
Other field-event placers were Will Parrott (third in long jump, 19 feet, 6 ½ inches), Jacob Louis (seventh in triple jump, 36 feet, 1 inch) and Nick Golden (eighth in triple jump, 35 feet, 4 inches).
Kyle Nofziger was a double-placer in the distance races. He was fourth in the 1,600 meters (4:50.48) and fifth in the 3,200 meters (10:42.28). Taylor Fan came in sixth in the 3,200 meters (10:47.32).
M-S had a second placer in both hurdles races. Wyatt Bohm was seventh in the 110 high hurdles (22.49 seconds) and Joe Taylor was eighth in the 300 hurdles (55.08 seconds).
Other placers in individual events for the Bulldogs were Deangelo Hughey (fourth in the 200 meters, 24.06 seconds), Golden (10th in the 200 meters, 24.80 seconds), Tyler Lewis (fifth in the 400 meters, 55.57 seconds) and Nathan Lundstrom (sixth in the 400 meters, 55.80 seconds).
Both of the M-S sprint relays captured third place.
The 400-meter relay consisted of Skyler Yancy, Hughey, Lewis and Quenton Rogers. Their time was 45.54 seconds.
The 800-meter foursome featured Yancy, Hughey, Parrott and Golden. They were clocked in 1:36.11.
The 3,200-meter relay unit of Benjamin Wallace, Matthew Sims, Hayden Grotelueschen and Singer finished fourth in 9:10.81.
The 1,600-meter relay was seventh. Sharing the baton were Lewis, Lundstrom, Erik Christianson and Karsten Waisath. Their combined time was 3:54.61.
M-S returns to action on Monday (May 24) in a quadrangular meet at Judah Christian.
