Mahomet-Seymour defeats St. Matthew on 8th grade night

Eighth-Grade Night was a major success for the Mahomet-Seymour Junior High girls’ basketball teams on Monday (Nov. 15).
Playing in their regular-season home finale, the eighth-graders took care of Champaign St. Matthew, 31-10, to reach the 20-win mark for the season.
Ava Yeakel tallied a game-high 17 points. Lily Bosworth contributed six points.
In their two years in junior high, the eighth-graders thus far have a combined 32-3 record, including 20-1 this season.
The seventh-grade squad was also victorious against St Matthew, posting a 31-9 victory.
Courtney Fonte led the way with 13 points. Breckyn Hess chipped in with six points.
The seventh-graders have an 18-3 season record.
Both squads return to action on Thursday (Nov. 18) at St. Joseph. The games will conclude the regular season.
The seventh-graders start their postseason quest on Saturday (Nov. 20) at 10:15 a.m. at home against seventh-seeded Champaign Franklin, a school the Bulldogs did not play in the regular season.
M-S is the No. 2 seed in the IESA Class 4A regional. With a win, a semifinal game will be played in the afternoon on Saturday (2:30 p.m.) against either third-seeded Urbana or seventh-seeded Rantoul Eater, both of which the Bulldogs defeated in the regular season.
The seventh-grade regional championship game is set for Tuesday (Nov. 23) at Mahomet, at 4:30 p.m.
