Mahomet-Seymour defeats St. Joseph-Ogden baseball, splits Apollo Conference start

Chase Wolters delivered three hits and drove in two runs on Friday (April 30) as Mahomet-Seymour became the first school to defeat the St. Joseph-Ogden baseball team this spring, registering a 5-2 victory in St. Joseph.
Chase Wagers picked up the pitching win after working four innings and scattering three hits. Keagon Ashby earned a save with three innings of two-hit relief work.
On Saturday (May 1), M-S tallied 30 runs in a doubleheader at home against Taylorville, but only managed a split to start Apollo Conference action.
The Bulldogs won the first game, 14-9, but suffered an 18-16 loss in the second game.
Andrew Norman had two hits in each game and swiped three bases in each game. He also hit a double in each game and scored five runs for the day.
Will Sampson also swatted two hits in each game.
Teammates with one two-hit game for the day were Zac Carr (who scored five second-game runs), Mateo Casillas and Wagers. Casillas powered a home run and a double in Game 2.
Jaedon Lager stole four bases for the doubleheader.
Carr earned the first-game win with 3 1/3 innings of relief. Seven of the 10 outs he recorded were on strikeouts. In the nightcap, Casillas had a three-inning relief stint, and fanned five batters.
M-S (5-4) returns to action on Monday (May 3) at home against Centennial.
