Mahomet-Seymour Cross Country qualifies for Sectional meet

Mahomet-Seymour’s boys’ cross-country team placed fourth at the Olney Class 2A regional meet on Saturday (Oct. 22) and qualified for the sectional.
The Bulldogs’ first five finishers crossed the finish line within 40.39 seconds of one another.
The team was led by two freshmen, who wound up as the top two freshmen placers at regional.
Emmett Kearns was 13th, covering the 3-mile course in 17 minutes, 28.72 seconds. Close behind was teammate Henry McMurry (14th in 17:30.56).
Other M-S athletes among the top five were sophomore Lukas Nykaza (21st in 17:48.71), senior Hayden Grotelueschen (22nd in 17:48.81) and sophomore Kaleb Kasper (30th in 18:09.11).
Rounding out the team’s lineup were junior Grant Smysor (32nd in 18:20.22) and sophomore Blake Dillman (38th in 18:24.57).
There were 70 runners in the Olney Regional.
M-S will return to action on Saturday (Oct. 29) in the Chatham Glenwood Sectional. The boys’ race will step off at noon.
