Mahomet-Seymour boys’ tennis makes debut

Boys’ tennis made its debut at Mahomet-Seymour on Monday (April 11) and it was a successful start for the Bulldogs.
Playing the first boys’ tennis match in school history, M-S traveled to Danville and returned home after a 6-3 victory.
The Bulldogs won four matches in singles and two in doubles.
At No. 3 singles, M-S’ Quade Bristle topped Cory Talbott, 2-6, 7-6 (11), 10-5.
At No. 4 singles, Bulldog teammate Andre Grace dominated Adrian Rivera, 6-0, 6-2.
At No. 5 singles, M-S’ Jack Louis defeated Camden O’Herron, 6-1, 6-2.
At No. 6 singles, Gaspar Covarrubias Zuniga was also victorious.
In doubles, the Bulldogs’ No. 2 entry of Jacob Atteberry and Braden Stacey overpowered Talbott and Rivera, 8-2.
The No. 3 doubles unit of Jack Louis and Lucas Raquel accounted for the other M-S triumph.
The rest of the Bulldogs’ lineup for the historic first-ever match consisted of Connor Hirsbrunner at No. 1 singles and Landon Nurmi at No.2 singles.
Hirsbrunner and Nurmi also played at No. 1 doubles.
M-S (1-0) returns to action on Tuesday (April 26) at Mount Zion. The Bulldogs will have an abbreviated season of five dual meets before competing in the Apollo Conference Tournament and the IHSA Sectional.
The team will practice at Illini Grove, in Urbana. Coach Alex Amatyleon’s squad consists of 20 players.
