Mahomet-Seymour’s boys’ soccer team avenged an early-season loss at Urbana, defeating the Tigers on their own field on Friday (Oct. 25) in a penalty-kick shootout to cap off the IHSA Class 2A regional championship match.

The Bulldogs won, 7-6, on penalty kicks.

M-S senior goalkeeper Hayden Litteken kept the Tigers off the scoreboard throughout regulation and both overtimes.

In the penalty-kick phase, Urbana and M-S each netted their first six attempts.

The seventh Urbana kicker was off-target on his attempt and Bulldog freshman Kade Smith secured M-S’ second straight regional crown by burying his shot on the right side of the net.

The first six penalty kickers for the Bulldogs were senior Ian Dobrucki, junior Colin Jackson, senior Travis Hoffman, freshman Noah Crane, freshman Ezekiel Beyer and junior Preston Sriver.

Urbana had beaten M-S, 3-1, on Sept. 7.

The Bulldogs (16-7-2) return to action on Wednesday (Oct. 30) at Warrensburg-Latham in a sectional semifinal match against Chatham Glenwood.

Chatham Glenwood dealt M-S a 4-1 loss on Sept. 10.
