Mahomet-Seymour Boys’ Soccer Battles Through Mixed Results in Season’s First Three Matches
By Fred Kroner
Three matches into the season, the Mahomet-Seymour boys’ soccer team has one of every possible outcome on the scoreboard.
After winning their season-opener, the Bulldogs fought back to salvage a 2-2 tie at Centennial on Thursday (Aug. 29) before being shut out at home by Dunlap, 2-0, on Saturday (Aug. 31).
Junior Colin Jackson tallied both goals against Centennial. Each one came during the final 12 minutes of the match.
Assisting Jackson were Noah Crane and Chris Bowie.
Hayden Litteken produced nine saves against Centennial and a career-high 20 saves in the home-opener against Dunlap.
“Both were well-fought games for being without two of our seniors for the Centennial game and three of our seniors for the Dunlap game due to injury,” M-S coach Kerry Lippold said.
“Brody Back (senior) was a standout in both games at center-back, shutting down dangerous attacks.”M-S (1-1-1) returns to action on Friday (Sept. 6) in the 11th-annual Urbana Invitational.
