Mahomet-Seymour Boys’ Cross-Country Team Claims Regional Title with Strong, Balanced Performance

Mahomet-Seymour’s seven runners in the Mattoon boys’ Class 2A IHSA cross-country regional on Saturday (Oct. 26) completed the 3-mile course within 41 ½ seconds of one another, leading the Bulldogs to the team title in the 12-school event.

M-S was led by senior Kaleb Kasper, an all-Regional performer, who was timed in 16 minutes, 2.60 seconds. He placed fourth.

Teammates trailing him were senior Zach Wilcoski (10th in 16:21.06), freshman Adam Smigielski (13th in 16:33.91), senior Lukas Nykaza (14th in 16:36.79), sophomore Tate Bode (15th in 16:38.32), freshman Tayten Gergen (17th in 16:42.80) and freshman Henry Welch (22nd in 17:15.15).

There were 86 runners in the regional race.

In the team chase, M-S totaled 56 points and outdistanced Mount Zion (84 points) and Champaign Central (85 points).

The regional championship was the first for M-S since 2021 and the 19th overall in the sport.

The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday (Nov. 2) in the Olney Sectional.
