Mahomet-Seymour Boys’ Cross-Country Secures 19th State Bid with Strong Second-Place Finish at Olney Sectional

With its first four runners crossing the finish line within a minute of one another, the Mahomet-Seymour boys’ cross-country team placed second on Saturday (Nov. 2) in the 18-school Olney Class 2A IHSA Sectional.
The performance earned M-S its 19th state bid all time for the boys’ cross-country program.
The team leaders were Henry McMurry (fourth in 5 minutes, 22.75 seconds), Auggie Gaudio (17th in 15:52.86), Kaleb Kasper (23rd in 16:00.69) and Tate Bode (43rd in 16:20.99).
The course at Olney Central College measured 3.05 miles.
Other Bulldog competitors in the 137-runner field were Adam Smigielski (59th in 16:39.31), Lukas Nykaza (65th in 16:43.77) and Tayten Gergen (72nd in 16:46.84).
M-S will return to action in the IHSA state meet on Saturday (Nov. 9) at Peoria’s Detweiller Park. The boys’ Class 2A state race will start at noon.
The Bulldogs’ boys’ team has qualified for state 10 times in the past 14 years.
M-S’ most-recent state team was 2021, when the school ended in eighth. No current squad member ran at state that fall.
