The Bulldogs doubled the score on Dunlap at halftime Friday night (32-16) and then needed late heroics to walk away with a 63-62 non-conference triumph.

“We had to survive a furious barrage from Dunlap in the fourth quarter,” M-S coach Ryan Bosch said. “We ultimately lost our lead we’d had the entire game with 20 seconds left.”

A late basket by Eli Warren proved to be the difference. Warren scored seven of his nine points in the fourth period.

After falling behind, Bosch said, “we came down, called timeout and drew up a play with the goal to get Grant Coleman going toward the basket. He drove and collapsed the defense.

“We found Eli Warren, who scored and was fouled giving us the final margin of victory with about five seconds left. We held on and got a stop at the buzzer.”

Coleman tallied a game-high 30 points, the fifth time he has hit that plateau this season.

“I am happy we got the win on the road and I tip my hat to Dunlap on the effort,” Bosch added.

A fourth-quarter three-pointer by Mason Butler also helped the Bulldogs. Teammate Braden Finch finished with seven points.

M-S (10-9) returns to action at home on Tuesday against Bloomington.
