Mahomet-Seymour basketball teams capture wins Saturday, swimming places fourth

Mahomet-Seymour’s varsity basketball teams rebounded from losses earlier in the week with victories on Saturday on the road.
Boys’ basketball
The Bulldogs (8-12) dropped a 45-26 decision at Lincoln on Friday, before earning a narrow 51-50 triumph on Saturday at Canton.
Grant Coleman scored 13 points at Canton and Kobe Essien had 11 points.
Connor Kamphaus, whose last eight baskets have all been on three-pointers, added nine points.
Cole Lener (eight rebounds) and Jordan Veldman (six rebounds) led the effort on the boards.
Coleman finished with three assists. Kamphaus and Lener each had three steals.
No Bulldog reached double figures at Lincoln in a game the Railsplitters led 10-2 after one quarter and 16-8 at halftime.
Coleman was the top scorer with nine points. Kamphaus had seven points.
Kamphaus, Lener and Lucas Turner each grabbed four rebounds.
M-S returns to action on Tuesday at Effingham.
Girls’ basketball
The Bulldogs (11-13) ended their week by splitting two road games.
M-S dropped a 54-39 decision on Thursday at Normal West, but held on to win at Lincoln on Saturday, 44-38.
Makayla Rosenbery just missed a double-double against the Railsplitters, scoring 18 points and collecting nine steals.
Maddy Wade scored 10 points and Lakeida Nichols pulled down 10 rebounds.
Kailyn Northrup had eight rebounds, four points, three assists and three steals. Nicole Taylor grabbed six rebounds.
M-S led, 17-12, after one quarter and maintained its edge, winning by six points.
Against Normal West, Northrup had nine points, Taylor had eight and Rosenbery seven.
The teams were tied, 21-21, at halftime.
Taylor and Sammie Beyer each handled six rebounds.
M-S returns to action on Thursday at Charleston.
Boys’ swimming
Mahomet-Seymour placed fourth in Saturday’s seven-team Urbana Tiger Open.
Two Bulldogs finished among the top three in their events.
Dalton DeMay won the 1-meter diving competition with a score of 392.80 points.
Teammate Gavin Groff was a two-event placer.
He was the runner-up in the 500-yard freestyle and placed third in the 200 freestyle.
Meet champion Bloomington Central Catholic totaled 430 points. M-S ended with 307 points.
The Bulldogs return to action on Tuesday at Kankakee.
