Mahomet-Seymour baseball gets postseason win over Tolono Unity

Five Bulldogs swatted at least two hits on Tuesday (Sept. 22) as top-seeded Mahomet-Seymour Junior High opened the postseason with an 8-3 Class 3A regional semifinal baseball win over visiting Tolono Unity.

M-S pounded four extra-base hits, including two doubles by Henry Wagner, who drove in three runs.

Nolan Sanderson and Nolan Johnson were each 3-for-4 – with one double apiece – and Gavin Bailey and Raymond Long joined Wagner in the two-hit parade. Sanderson, Johnson and Bailey each scored two runs.

M-S fell behind after yielding a first-inning run, but took the lead for good with a three-run third-inning outburst.

Johnson (3-0) pitched four innings, allowing five hits and one run. He struck out two batters and walked no one. Lucas Dyer – who had the team’s lone stolen base – pitched 2 2/3 innings, yielding four hits. Dyer fanned four batters and walked one.

M-S (10-1) returns to action at home on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the regional championship game against second-seeded Monticello, which started postseason play with a shutout win.
