Mahomet-Seymour baseball drops season-opener
By Fred Kroner
In a baseball season-opener on Wednesday (March 15) where each team managed just four hits and neither pitcher allowed an earned run, Harrisburg handed Mahomet-Seymour a 3-1 loss in Southern Illinois.
Braden Houchin, who stole a base, tallied the lone Bulldog run in the sixth inning, cutting into a 3-0 deficit.
Houchin had one of the team’s four singles. Teammates with hits were Mateo Casillas, Carter Johnson and Ben Wagner.
Alex McHale scattered three hits in his five-inning pitching stint. He walked three batters and struck out four. Finn Randolph pitched a scoreless sixth inning.
Weather permitting, M-S will return to action on Thursday (March 16) at DuQuoin.
The Bulldogs are ranked 13th in the state (among all classes) by Prep Baseball Review.
